Philips has sold two different remotes under the name Philips Hue Smart Dimmer Switch, and they do not sit in each other's pedestals. This page is for the earlier one. Look at the bottom button: if it reads OFF, you are in the right place. If it carries the hue wordmark, the newer remote is shorter and squarer, and it has pedestals of its own.
Off its wall plate the remote has no assigned place. It came in a starter kit, it never went on the wall, and now it lives wherever it was last set down - face down on a cushion, or behind the nightstand.
The part you cannot see from the outside is the magnet. This remote has none of its own, only a steel slug, so the magnet goes in the pedestal. The newer remote is the other way around: magnet in the remote, steel slug in the pedestal. Either way it sets down at an angle you can read and press without picking it up, and lifts straight off for a battery change.
Six sizes. Five are one straight row: a single is 54 mm (2.1 in) wide and each further slot adds 42 mm, up to 222 mm (8.7 in) for the quintuple. All five are 111.8 mm (4.4 in) deep and 42.4 mm (1.7 in) tall, so a longer one takes more of the shelf edge but no more of the shelf. The sixth is the 3+3 sextuple, the only one that grows backward: 138 mm across, the same as the triple, and 213.7 mm (8.4 in) front to back, its two rows level rather than tiered. If the surface is deeper than it is wide, that is the one to measure for.
There are more than 20 colors. Each filament is either matte or glossy, so the finish comes with the color: White, Cool Gray, Chocolate, Seafoam and Pistachio are flat under a lamp, Jet Black and the reds and blues catch the light. Speckled Black is a graphite base with shiny white specks in it, and Cookies & Cream a cool-white base with black specks. Glow-in-the-Dark is a pale gray in daylight and glows green once the lights are off, the one color the preview cannot show - its swatch says so.
We also build combination pedestals that hold two kinds of remote on one base, so both Hue generations, or a Hue and a Lutron Caseta Pico, can share one.
